Four Companies Take Top Honors in ICI Contest 四家公司在ICI竞赛上获最高荣誉
T e Investment Casting Institute’s annual casting con-
test, conducted in conjunction with the recent 59th Tech- nical Conference and Expo in Nashville, Tenn., bestowed top honors in three award categories: aerospace, industrial and defense markets. Winning castings for military were from Shellcast
Inc., Montague, Mich., and Uni-Cast, Londonderry, N.H. Alcoa Howmet, Georgetown, Ontario, Canada, won for aerospace. Aristo-Cast Inc., Almont, Mich. took top hon- ors for industrial. In addition, fi ve fi nalists were recognized: Barron
Industries, Oxford, Mich.; Kovatch Castings, Uniontown, Ohio; O’Fallon Casting, O’Fallon, Mo.; TPM Inc., Sugar Land, Texas; and Uni-Cast/Ceramet, Bethlehem, Pa. Investment Casting Institute Executive Director Mi-
chael Perry said recognition of the winners and fi nalists illustrates the strengths of the investment casting process and benefi ts to the metalcaster and customer alike. “Just looking at some of these castings is enough to
show what can be done with investment casting. Each internal passage, intricate coring detail, thin wall and diffi - cult design element represents an advantage of the invest- ment casting process and a potential problem solved for the customer,” Perry said. “T e use of investment casting often can result in total cost savings because of reduced machining and fi nishing, combining part details into a one-piece casting or improving surface fi nish.”

The contest, open to members of the Investment Casting Institute, was designed to recognize facilities which manufacture components that best illustrate and promote the benefi ts and fl exibility of the investment casting process, or that demonstrate problem solving techniques for the customer.
