components. Te internal shaping can comprise complex designs, and the combination of multiple components into one single unit enables high function integration. Te Bühler Lost Core process begins with the compo- nent design for the salt core application, followed by the mold, aluminum part and salt core concepts. Te behavior of the liquid salt and aluminum in the mold, as well as the quality of the component, can be simulated by software, eliminating the need for subsequent costly adaptations of the mold. In the creation of the salt core, which determines the internal shaping, the optimal salt solution plays a crucial role in ensuring the core’s stability while simultane- ously enabling its subsequent removal. Te salt core and the aluminum component are produced

on a diecasting machine with real-time control. Tis prevents damage to the core during recasting. Te core is removed by pressurized water. Bühler has the necessary know-how and equipment for the successful application of Lost Core technol- ogy and is in a position to support the complete process from the initial idea to the production stage. Bühler held a symposium in mid-November 2012.

More than 100 participants, including prominent repre- sentatives of the automotive industry and its suppliers, were in attendance. A concrete project was simulated over all stages, one by one, to promote better under- standing. Andreas Hennings and George Habel of the Bocardiecasting company emphasized the technology’s economic aspects. The participants also were able to experience the various process phases live. LotharKal- lien, Univ. of Aalen, supplemented the program by presenting the results of a 3D free-form surface project

AMC Improves Production Efficiency With Laempe Core Machine To increase its core production capacity, ArticulosMetalicos

de Cadereyta, S.A. de C.V. (AMC) in Cadereyta Jimenez N.L., Mexico, ordered its first LL10 Core Center from Laempe+Reich, Trussville, Ala., in 2004. After years of successful conversion from shell to cold box, the company has installed a second Laempe Core Center to further increase production capacity. Te Core Center includes a Laempe LL10 Core Shooter,

Laempe LG Gas Generator and Laempe LVM2 Sand Mixer, all operated by a central control system. Te LL10 is an efficient and flexible machine allowing use of both vertical and/or hori- zontal tooling with up to six parts for core production up to 220 lbs. (100 kg). Te compact LL-series automatic core shooters, for hot or

cold core hardening, include an integrated gas unit, control unit, hydraulics and safety cabin. It shoots a volume of 5 to 20 liters and offers a maximum shooting area of 15 x 15 in. (380 x 380 mm) with a 9-in. (230-mm) diameter standard shooting area. It cycles (without gassing, injection and venting) in 16 seconds. Tool dimensions are:
